What’s the best way to create a powerful connection with your audience? How can you capture images that narrates your brand’s story? Try building your persona through visual branding.

A visual brand is like a mood board for your business. It tells other people what you want them to know about you in a way that develops and builds a relationship even before they actually need you. Visual components dictate how your brand appeals and converts followers to sales.

To create your visual brand, take a deep dive into your artwork and your camera roll. What images excite you? What concepts matter to your people? The pictures that inspire you will likely help you develop connections with your future customers.

Today, I’ll share with you some guidelines that will help you build your brand through visuals and images on social media but before you begin, I advise you start performing a social media audit. This will give you an idea of how wide and deep your social media presence is and at the same time give you a clear picture of how far you’ve come. Audits are a great way to check out which branding you should steer away from doing in the future.

If you’ve already done this, it’s time to start developing your visual brand.

Number one, set your color palette. Do you have specific colors that you want to be associated with? If not, it’s best to look at your personality and how this conveys to your brand with color. Having a well-defined color palette is key to instant brand recognition. Think of McDonald’s, Starbucks or the iPhone. I bet as soon as I said those names, you already had visuals in mind. Are you a dynamic and young brand? Maybe you should use bright or pastel colors or are you a technology company that wants project superiority? Use white and black neutrals. Consider the feel behind your business when you’re choosing your colors.

Number two, determine your brand fonts. Similar to your color palette, choose the right fonts that mirror who you are as a brand. Don’t be wild about your font choices. Keep it at a maximum of two to three. Any more than that and it can be distracting. Regularly use this font across all your marketing efforts and initiatives.

Number three, use photo filters. Take advantage of photo filters to keep your photos at the same consistent feel. Use the right filter to sustain your branding efforts and personality making it easy for your viewers to recognize you.

Number four, design consistent templates. Combine your colors, fonts and filters across all your marketing materials. Take the time to form a template that carries these together. Use them in announcements, sale products, marketing materials. They’ll make it easier for you to churn out quality and timely content without compromising consistency in branding. The key to your audience’s heart is through familiarity building with your branding.

When you make use of fonts, filters and colors consistently, it makes it easy for users to recognize who you are and this gives you an edge across different brands.

Really invest time into building your visual brand. This will stand on its own and help build up your brand and name.
