Video content marketing is one of the most effective and powerful tools for marketers and social media managers. It produces the highest ad recall. According to HubSpot, 80% of uses remember a video they watched in the past month. It boosts your search engine optimization, or SEO efforts. And using video content can boost your conversion rates by more than 80%. At the same time more than 50% of customers are more likely to buy a product online after watching a video about it.

Video has been called the future of content marketing. With all its benefits, how do you get started? Here are three steps you need to get a head start on video content marketing for your business.

Plan your content. Start by understanding your goal. What do you want to accomplish with this video? Videos can help you with conversion rates, increase traffic, or generate sales, but you need to have a definite goal in place before doing so. This will help you analyze your performance and form the idea behind your content. Before you start with anything, assess your video capabilities. Can you create your videos using your in-house team? Do you need to start outsourcing? How much money can you set aside for a budget? Evaluate your team’s resources so you can plan the scale of your videos. Investing in equipment will also help you with creating high-quality videos through your filming and editing process.

Create a concept and shoot your video. Identify what kind of video you’re going to create. Think about the video that can best address your goals. Could a video testimonial do it? An infomercial? A product demo perhaps? Once you figure this out, create a storyboard. You can do this simply by opening up PowerPoint to put together a collection of images you plan to shoot or by sketching it out on a notecard. Organize and visualize your scenes.

In crafting a storyboard, think of the BME acronym. This stands for Beginning, Middle, End. Make sure your video starts off with an interesting beginning to hook your audience. Build your case in the middle, this is the meat of your video. Then end with a bang, and a call to action. After creating a concept, start filming and editing. Get together your crew, prepare your equipment and props, if any. I suggest you create a simple shot list that consists of your storyboard and the schedule. Plot out within the day what you intend to shoot. Having a time table ensures that you finish your videos on time and that you’re prepared for any unforeseen delays that might occur.

Upload and promote your videos. Once you have an edited video, it’s time to upload it and share it with your audience. There are many ways you can post online, but my favorite and the best way to do so is still through YouTube because Google owns YouTube. And this means if done properly, you’re more likely to be discovered through regular search. I have a YouTube checklist that you can download to help you get the views and help you understand all the steps you need to making your videos popular on YouTube. Once you have your video uploaded, start promoting your video on all your social media accounts or on popular blogs. The best way to get traction on your videos is when you start developing a buzz for it.

So there you have it, there are the three steps to getting started with video marketing. The key here is to create meaningful content that will benefit your audience the most. If you want to learn more about video content marketing on YouTube, check out my YouTube video checklist.
