In grade school, you’re taught every subject by the same person. The knowledge is introductory and the goal of the workload is to prepare you for the bigger academic challenges. As you became a freshman in high school you had multiple teachers whose specific knowledge in their subject matter, went more in-depth and taught you, as an expert in their field.

There is a significant parallel to business.

Becoming an expert in your industry not only takes time but it requires knowledge and depth to be built, block-by-block, setting a foundation of understanding and wisdom that surpasses those stuck in grade school business practices. As you become an expert in your niche and have built a rock-solid foundation of wisdom and experience, you’re able to begin teaching new team members to do the same.

We often hear the best way to work on your business is to stop working in your business. For some of you, this might bring a level of anxiety and uncertainty, that your company can’t run without you. But let me tell you, tricking ourselves into thinking that we can do it all, or that we should do it all, because we’re the ones who can do it best, is the quickest way to burn-out and stall the growth of your company.

Take a moment to think about the day you took the leap into becoming an entrepreneur. The exhilarating feeling of finally leaving your nine to five, feeling the freedom of working without constraint and the possibilities that seemed endless. What happened almost immediately after you came down off the high of your decision? The workload piled up and you found yourself tied to work as much, if not more, than you were in your nine to five, right? It happens to all of us. Until you begin building a team of true believers around you that will help bring your vision to life.

Some of you may already be past grade school practices and are actively building your team. But some of you have not focused down enough to graduate grade school and move on to high school, ultimately becoming the visionary entrepreneur.

For those of you that have, I applaud you. You’re likely seeing significant growth, month after month, year after year. But for the others, I want to know what’s stopping you from having your dream team, to have others around you, pushing your business forward?

For many, it stems from believing the lie, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. But by living and running your business this way, you’ll always feel stuck and never advance to the company, or a visionary entrepreneur, that you’re meant to be. Instead, you need systems and processes in place to be able to focus on your expertise while letting others use their own unique gifts and talent to bring value to your business.

So where are you today? Are you allowing your business to stay in elementary stages, or are you ready to become the leader, of the company, you were always meant to be?
